Old God's Time is a difficult book for me to review.
The writing is absolutely beautiful, and the audiobook narration is equally wonderful. There were moments when I simply marvelled at the language.
But goodness, I struggled to follow what was happening!
The constant movement between memories, the present, and what may or may not have been real left me feeling completely lost at times. I found it incredibly frustrating trying to piece everything together, and I came very close to giving up.
I'm glad I persevered, though. As the story unfolded and I began to understand what was happening, I appreciated just how heartbreaking and cleverly constructed it was.
It's a deeply moving story, beautifully written and narrated, but certainly not an easy listen.
I'm glad I finished it, although I can't say I enjoyed the journey quite as much as I admired the destination.
3.8/5
