27 April 2015 - What a gorgeous morning! This was the first 'Muizenberg Monster'. As per the correspondence we received, we were the 'guinea pigs'. There were three different beach run distances; 6, 10 and 20kms. Thérèse, Michele and I did the 10km. We were not too sure how busy the registration would be to pick up our numbers so we arrived quite early. Not too many people so it was very quick & easy to get our numbers. It was quite chilly and a bit windy. The super entertaining MC that was also at the Cape Point Run was the announcer as well.
Thérèse, Michele and I ran together for the first seven kms, then I could just not keep up. At the three km mark we took off our shoes to cross an estuary. Ran barefoot for the rest of the way. It was amazing to watch the sun rise over the mountains. What a way to start the day! Weather was perfect, not too windy, light breeze-beautiful!
At the five km turn around point we received a blue elastic band. As with most races the last km was the longest! The last 200 meters was strangely incredibly windy!
The sand was interestingly quite hard. Instant pedicure! It was lovely to run on the beach with the waves lapping over your feet every now and again.
I started timing myself two minutes before the race. When I stopped it, it was 01:06 so am very happy with my time and it includes taking off shoes, crossing the estuary twice and stopping for a photo.
There was no water or medals but it was not missed at all. There was a delicious ice cold Coke at the end.
Would I do this race again, more than likely yes. 7/10
